Swaraj Samvad

Integrating Traditional Knowledge to Enhance Resilience to Climate Change

7th, 8th, & 9th January 2025 | India Habitat Centre, New Delhi

Swaraj Samvad brings together meaningful conversation, diverse stakeholders, and sector practitioners, to promote the swaraj of tribal communities. Recognizing that the climate-resilient practices of tribal communities hold significant relevance in addressing contemporary challenges such as food security, farming, and energy. The convening aims to highlight and integrate these practices into national strategies.

Through insightful discussions and meaningful dialogue, we will explore the complexities surrounding tribal swaraj and climate resilience, identify avenues for strategic partnerships, and develop actionable strategies to integrate indigenous knowledge into climate action plans. The primary objectives are to foster cross-sector collaboration to unlock collective resources, empower tribal communities to drive their own solutions, and build a CSO collaboration that supports tribal aspirations for swaraj in food, farming, energy, and cultural preservation.

Key Objectives

Foster Collaborative Dialogue, Knowledge Exchange, and Action to Amplify Tribal Solutions and Aspirations

Create a platform for diverse stakeholders to engage in discussions on the climate-resilient practices of tribal communities, addressing critical challenges like geographical isolation, limited access to services, and the impacts of climate change on traditional lifestyles. Foster partnerships to co-develop strategies that promote tribal swaraj and ensure tribal perspectives are integrated into climate policy and decision-making at all levels.

Map Regional Aspirations and Define an Agenda for 2030

Collaboratively map the aspirations and concerns of tribal communities from different regions of India, culminating in a charter contributing to 'AGENDA 2030' that will guide and drive community-led solutions, ensuring their priorities and practices are central to shaping India's climate action.

Integrate Indigenous Knowledge into National Strategies

Develop actionable strategies to incorporate traditional tribal practices and knowledge into national climate resilience plans, ensuring indigenous wisdom is recognized and valued in addressing contemporary challenges.

Build a CSO Collaboration with Swaraj

Leverage the convening to initiate and strengthen a civil society organization (CSO) collaboration focused on advancing tribal communities' swaraj by driving their solutions and priorities within India's climate strategies and action plans.
